About Our Terror-Free Investment (TFI) Services

Mark Langerman
CEO, Managing Director
In 2007, after more than two successful decades in the financial services world, EFG’s Managing Director and CEO Mark Langerman had a career-changing experience. Mark flew to Washington, D.C. with a client to attend a symposium on “socially conscience investing.” What he learned there about the power of divestment to reshape our world and the ability of investors to impact state sponsors of terrorism literally opened his eyes to a new way of putting money to work.
Within months, they began to offer their clients “a values-based investment strategy” via financial vehicles pre-screened to exclude the stocks and bonds of the more than 600 global companies*, including many based in the United States, who still do business with countries deemed to be state sponsors of terrorism by the U.S. State Department – rogue nations like Iran, Syria, Sudan and North Korea.
"The client who came with us to the symposium wanted to put his money where his mouth is,” Mark recalls. “He wanted us to scour his account and determine whether his investments touched any of these companies. Every investment was involved to some degree, so we had to liquidate a $1.7 million account and redirect his assets."**
Today, Terror-Free Investing is a growing movement that not only sends a strong moral message to American companies but also potentially reduces shareholder risk by avoiding investment in volatile, terrorism-dependent economies (countries known as high “global security risks”). TFI is investment with a purpose, a movement meant to change corporate behavior and reward investors by giving them a clear conscience.
